National Disability Insurance Scheme

Empowering You to Live the Life You Choose

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) was created to provide assistance to people with disabilities in order to give them greater independence, offer employment support, and connect them with disability services within their community.

The NDIS is not means tested, which means that eligibility for the scheme is not based on a person’s income or assets.

This allows people with disabilities to access the support they need regardless of their financial circumstances.

By providing the necessary support and services, the NDIS can enable people with disabilities to lead more fulfilling lives and participate more fully in their communities.

To be eligible for an NDIS support plan, an individual needs to:

  • Be aged less than 65 when they first access the scheme
  • Be an Australian citizen, live in Australia, and hold a permanent visa or hold a Protected Special Category visa.
  • Have a permanent disability that significantly affects their ability to take part in everyday activities

There are three in which an NDIS participant may manage their NDIS funding:

Agency Managed

When an individual chooses agency-managed funds, the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) manages their funds and pays registered NDIA service providers directly. The NDIA also takes care of payment and record-keeping.

Invoices will be sent directly to the NDIA.

Plan Management Provider

If you choose to use plan management provider, a Plan Manager will be employed to support you in managing your budget, processing a payment request, and facilitating the payment to registered service providers directly. The Plan Manager will keep all records on your behalf.

Invoices will be sent directly to the NDIS participant’s Plan Manager

Self-Managed

If you are self-managed, you will manage your NDIS funding yourself. You will need to decide what support you need to meet your plan goals and handle all stages of that process yourself, including payment and record-keeping.

We will invoice the NDIS participant directly.

At Bright Journey Disability Support Services, we’re here to support NDIS participants no matter how they choose to manage their funding. We understand that the process may vary based on the chosen method, and we’ll outline everything in a signed service agreement with you.
